I spent my life wondering what was wrong with me.
I never had a regular period and always felt something just wasn't right. When I was 15, I went to a gynecologist due to heavy bleeding and terrible cramps. The gynecologist informed me that I had a cyst on my ovary and the best thing to do is start birth control pills to regulate my periods.
I was only 15 and still a virgin so you can imagine my humiliation when I had to explain to my friends and family.
I remained on the pill until I was married and decided to try to get pregnant. I had no idea that I had PCOS and what that meant.
After a year off the pill, no regular period and no pregnancy I was reading a magazine article on PCOS and all the symptoms. I had some, not all of the symptoms but I felt I should bring it up to my doctor and see what she said.
I was finally diagnosed. I was crushed.
The doctor prescribed Metformin and Clomid. I was determined not to go that route.
I decided to go at it myself for one year. I read all the books out there for PCOS. I tried to manage it on my own. I have a lot of will power and things did improve but I still couldn't get my periods within the 35 day ovulation period that my doctor told me about.
After a year of diets and detoxing my body I finally gave in and tried the Metformin.
I was pregnant 3 months later and now have a beautiful 8 month old baby boy. I remained on the Metformin during the first trimester and had no complications at all. I can't wait to have the next.
