(KENTUCKY)
Hi, my name is crystal. I have had PCOS for 12 years+. I have been married for 11 years. We have tried to conceive with multiple drugs prescribed by my doctor but nothing works.
It just seems that doctors don't really care, they just toss you another drug to take.
I am so frustrated with this syndrome. I feel like I have taken fatherhood away from my husband.
The hair on my face makes me so depressed, I shave every day. My husband hasn't touched my neck in years because I won't let him. My hair is thinning on my scalp. I only have one period a year if I'm lucky.
My friends, family, and husband all pretend that they understand what I'm going through but they don't. I don't even feel like a woman anymore. I keep wondering when the day will come that I wake up and notice that I have grown a penis (haha).
I have a good job in the medical field, a stable home, and a wonderful husband, now all I need is a child to complete our lives.
I loved reading all of your success stories and only hope that I will have one of my own someday soon.
I am starting my diet today. that is the first step I think.
I thank you all for posting your stories and giving me some hope. I had forgotten what hope was until today.
thank you,
crystal

For dietary guidelines, we recommend you read our PCOS diet book.
For hair loss, consider carnitine.
Carnitine is often called an amino acid but it is actually a vitamin-like nutrient, related in structure to the B vitamins. It plays an essential role in transporting fats into the muscles for energy production. For this reason, it is often referred to as a "fat burning" nutrient.
Surprisingly, a very recent experiment with human hair at the University of Lubeck in Germany showed that carnitine promotes hair growth. Exposure to carnitine stimulated hair shaft elongation and reduced hair cell death in this study. The authors of this study conclude, "Our findings suggest that L-carnitine stimulates human scalp hair growth..." They further encourage one to explore l-carnitine "…as a well-tolerated, relatively safe adjuvant treatment in the management of androgenetic alopecia and other forms of hair loss."
Other women have reported to us that saw palmetto has helped to reduce facial hair.
